A founder member of the Society Arthur W.J.G. Ord-Hume, has
written most of the standard works on mechanical music including
Collecting Musical Boxes and How to Repair Them, Player Piano,
Clockwork Music, Barrel Organ, Mechanical Music and The Musical
Clock.
Indeed, all of the modern books on musical boxes and related instruments
have been written by members of the Musical Box Society of Great
Britain. These include Musical Boxes by our first president,
the late J.E.T. Clark: The Disc Musical Box Handbook and
The Cylinder Musical Box Handbook by Graham Webb; Musical
boxes by David Tallis, a past treasurer of the Society.
More recent publications are "Cylinder Musical Box Design &
Repair" and "Cylinder Musical Box Technology"
by our regular contributor H.A.V. Bulleid. "Mechanical Music"
an introductory booklet for those wishing for a brief history of
the subject by Kevin McElhone. Overseas members have written Au
Temps de la Boîte a Musique (Fredy Baud, Switzerland); The
Marvellous World of Music Machines (H. Wiess-Stauffacher, Switzerland);
Encyclopedia of Automatic Musical Instruments (Q David Bowers,
USA). Player Piano Treasury (Harvey Roehl, USA); Muziek
op Rolletjes (Dr.J.J.L. Haspels, Holland).
Back numbers of many of the more recent issues of "Music Box"
are available and a complete set forms a very valuable reference
work for anyone interested in mechanical music. The "Music Box"
