Formed in 1962, the Musical Box Society of Great Britain today has an international membership ranging from the USA through Switzerland (the accredited birthplace of the cylinder musical box) to Asia and Australia.

The aim of the Society is to further an interest in and an appreciation of all forms of mechanical music.

Several meetings are held each year, in various parts of the UK, which give members the opportunity to meet and discuss their collections, to exchange, buy, or sell items, and, in particular, to listen to the excellent talks which are given by specialists in particular aspects of the hobby. Once a year, a major auction is held at which members may buy and sell mechanical musical items.

The Society publishes a quarterly journal devoted to all aspects of mechanical music.

As well as an update on Society activities such as meetings - each issue of The Music Box will cover such items as restorations of both rare and more commonplace instruments, history of manufacturers, reviews of publications and recordings, workshop advice for restorers, reports on exhibitions and special events both in the UK and Europe, and of course advertisements for supplies, auctions etc. Extensively illustrated, this 28 page A4 publication is posted to all members four times a year.
