To start the year off John Ward and I have selected Tavistock, Devon as our venue as we have not been there for many years. The town of Tavistock voted 'England's best market town' is situated on the River Tavy below the slopes of Dartmoor National Park. It is a delight to wander around the town with small specialist shops including the 1000 year old Crebers delicatessen with it's multi award-winning Country Cheeses. Also Tavistock has a wealth of antique shops, and also boasts a thriving market scene with a farmers market twice a month and a regular covered pannier market which dates back to 1105. In the heart of the town a beautiful 15th-century parish church can be found near the ruins of the 12th-century Benedictine Abbey.
Our hotel ‘The Bedford' is situated in the centre of Tavistock and was formerly a Benedictine Abbey. The hotel was previously the residence of the Dukes of Bedford and today has 29 delightful bedrooms, and an award winning AA Red Rosette restaurant and large private car park.
